How do I get started?
1. Go to the Devices tab and tap refresh to scan your network
2. Tap on your router and mesh nodes, enable "Mark as Access Point"
3. Go to the Scan tab and start walking through your house
4. View results to see your coverage map and any handoff issues
Why does the app need location permission?
Location is used to map your WiFi coverage as you walk around. The app records your position along with which access point is serving you, creating a coverage map. This data never leaves your device.
How accurate is the signal strength reading?
iOS doesn't expose actual WiFi signal strength (RSSI) to apps. We estimate signal quality based on ping latency to your access points. Lower latency = closer/stronger connection. Use the readings as general guidance, not precise measurements.
What does "handoff" mean?
A handoff occurs when your device switches from one access point to another. Too many handoffs in a short time means your APs have overlapping coverage and are competing for your device, which can cause connection drops or slowdowns.
Why can't the app find my mesh nodes?
Some mesh systems use a single IP for all nodes. The app discovers devices by scanning open ports. If your mesh nodes don't respond to port scans, you may need to manually add them or check your mesh system's admin page for their IPs.
What's a MAC address and where do I find it?
A MAC address (also called BSSID) is a unique identifier for each access point. Adding it helps the app identify exactly which AP is serving you. Find it in your router's admin page, on the device label, or in your mesh app's settings.
How do I fix competing APs?
If two APs are fighting over your device:
• Move them further apart
• Reduce transmit power on one (check your router settings)
• Adjust channel settings to reduce interference
• Check your mesh system's steering/roaming settings
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. All scan data, coverage maps, and settings are stored locally on your iPhone. We don't have servers, don't collect analytics, and can't see your data. Delete the app to remove everything.
App shows "Not Connected"
Make sure you're connected to WiFi (not cellular). Try toggling WiFi off and on in Settings. If using a VPN, try disabling it temporarily.
Network scan finds no devices
Some networks block device discovery. Check if your router has "AP isolation" or "client isolation" enabled and disable it. Also ensure you're on the main network, not a guest network.
Location not updating during scan
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → CoverageKit and select "While Using the App". Make sure Location Services is enabled globally.
SSID/BSSID not showing
iOS requires location permission to access WiFi info. Grant location access and ensure the app has the "Access WiFi Information" capability enabled.
